Microsoft is expanding its Project xCloud streaming service beyond PCs and high-performance mobile devices. If you possess the necessary hardware, you can stream Xbox and PC games to your device. This service is set to be integrated into the Xbox Games Pass Ultimate membership. However, it seems that Microsoft is looking to push xCloud’s capabilities even further.

Today, Microsoft unveiled its plans for an “Xbox TV” streaming application in collaboration with various TV manufacturers. While leveraging the existing xCloud framework, this service aims to cater to smart TVs, making it as accessible as platforms like Netflix or Disney+. Alongside this app, Microsoft is also crafting a standalone xCloud streaming device akin to Amazon Fire TV or Roku.

“We’re collaborating with global TV makers to integrate the Game Pass experience directly into internet-connected TVs, requiring only a controller to play,” stated Liz Hamren, head of gaming experiences and platforms at Microsoft.

“Additionally, we’re creating individual streaming gadgets that can be connected to a TV or monitor, enabling you to stream your Xbox experience with a stable internet connection,” Hamren elaborated.

There’s no official word yet on the commercial availability or pricing of these services and devices, but they have been under development for some time. Last year, Xbox Chief Phil Spencer hinted at the potential of streaming apps and devices, and the company has emphasized its objective of enabling access to its games across various feasible platforms.

And for those anticipating news during E3 next week, Microsoft has confirmed that their presentation will focus exclusively on games rather than hardware.
